Whether it?s taking online classes or Elearning a foreign language, we all want to be able to study and travel abroad at the same time. But how does one go about it? Depending on your interest, you can find many valuable resources that will suit your needs and also give you a pleasurable experience. For some people studying abroad is an option because it offers a chance to continue taking college like business management courses, learn a new language, and see the sites all at the same time. For others who want a non-traditional approach to taking college courses because of the convenience and the only option in taking traditional college courses, online classes or distance education is also the way to go. As with study abroad, it offers the student the freedom to be in another location, whether at home, on a business trip or another location. In addition, the time frame will be a little more flexible depending on the professor of choice. Below, these two methods of studying while traveling are discussed.
Study Abroad
Most educational departments whether it is in history, social studies, health, or foreign languages will offer these opportunities for study abroad for educational credit and also as an additional course for a semester or year abroad in the country of your choice or the country related to your major. Participation in a student exchange program can also be part of a major or educational. When the student signs up to participate in either program, it will occur about a year or a semester before the actual start date. This will allow for physicals to be conducted, the creation of a passport, and also the preparation of what will be expected when being abroad.
While not all countries are the same, participating in a study abroad program allows the student to improve on language skills, cultural awareness, and self-awareness. While being abroad, the student will become familiar with the customs, holidays, and other aspects of the host country culture. Sometimes a home stay option is available for those students who feel homesick and want to join in family holiday celebrations. Living on-campus abroad offers the student plenty of opportunity to meet other students from around the world who are studying in the host country just like you, and life-long friends and memories will constantly be created during your stay.
Online/Distance Learning
Another option that has become popular these days for those wanting to travel and study abroad is the distance or online class. They can be found in any university as a class choice along with classroom times, or as part of a specialized university that specifically caters to distance learning. The pay amount will vary depending on the university of you choose. If you?re taking a distance course through a major university, you will have to pay the same amount of money as if you were going to a class in person. Other than that, some universities depending on their size will be cheap or expensive depending on what you?re looking for in the university as well as what specialization you want to study.
When you do participate in online studying, you will get a syllabus as in a regular class with a set schedule of when class time will be to meet up online with other classmates who are either in a classroom or also studying from home as you are. Skype is most often used for this purpose. In some cases, you might not have a class at all, but email and correspondence on a forum. If you?re working on an advanced degree or certificate 4 courses, and are required to take independent study courses or to write a professional thesis, correspondence with your advisor will be conducted by phone, email, or instant messaging for idea exchanges, feedback, etc.
When it comes to distance education or Elearning, there are many pros and cons. The pros are the fact that you don?t have to dress up, fight the traffic on the way to class, or worry about a parking space. You can often work at your own pace, and if you need to travel for vacation or on business, you can take your studies with you. As far as the cons are concerned, it takes a lot of self-discipline to study abroad online, especially if you have long working hours or you?re very busy with family and other responsibilities. When it comes to the choice of college or university for online study, the major universities will not be a problem because they are accredited. But if it is a specialized school, its best to check to see if it has proper accreditation or studying through that school will not only be a waste of money, but could also hinder your job prospects in the future. However, despite these pros and cons, online schooling has become a wave of the future and will continue to do so in the next few years.
